Irene Zalich

Lianne Urada, Ph.D, MSW, LCSW
Research Scientist

Dr. Urada is an Assistant Professor in the SDSU School of Social Work and the Joint Doctoral Program in Interdisciplinary Research on Substance Use, and Adjunct faculty in the UC San Diego School of Medicine. She is Principal Investigator of a grant testing community mobilization interventions for women living with HIV in San Diego County, and of a National Institute on Drug Abuse K01 grant, examining community mobilization and its potential to reduce HIV/STI risk and violence among substance using females in the sex trade in Tijuana, Mexico.  She has over 25 publications on women and men involved in sex trade and human trafficking in the US, Philippines, Russia, and Latin America.  In addition, Dr. Urada co-chairs the Research Subcommittee of the San Diego County’s Regional Human Trafficking-Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) Advisory Council.  She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and serves on the Board of Directors of Christie’s Place (transforming the lives of women affected by HIV/AIDS in San Diego). Her current research pursuits focus on the intersection of human trafficking, HIV, and substance use in child welfare and health systems.
