Melinda Hohman, Ph.D. Dr. Hohman is a Professor at the School of Social Work, San Diego State University, where she has worked since 1995. She received her Ph.D. from Arizona State University. Dr. Hohman teaches courses in substance abuse treatment, research, and social work practice. She also coordinates the undergraduate social work program. Dr. Hohman's research interests include substance abuse assessment, treatment services, the overlap of substance abuse treatment and Child Welfare services. She has been a trainer in Motivational Interviewing since 1999, training community social workers, Child Welfare workers, probation officers, and addiction counselors across Southern California. Dr. Hohman has been awarded over $350,000 of research and evaluation grants from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration, the California Social Work Education Center, the California Senate Office of Research, the SDSU Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Studies, the Office of the Dean, SDSU Health and Human Services, and UCSD Center for Criminality and Addiction Research. Dr. Hohman has been the PI or Co-PI on numerous grants, including a statewide survey of Alcohol and Drug Program administrators, and their perceptions of drug treatment. She also conducted a study of women in the drug treatment system who were pregnant and concurrently involved with the Child Welfare System. Currently, Dr. Hohman is the Co-PI/evaluator on two Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services expansion grants for women receiving drug treatment in a residential setting. |
