The Center for Alcohol and Drug Studies and Services has supported several alcohol and drug related research initiatives, including research on college age drinking, military substance use, and SBIRT (screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment).

San Diego State University

San Diego State University (SDSU) is an Hispanic-serving institution with a student body of over 40,000 and funded research activity in excess of $127M in 2011-12. The university provides an environment that fosters research and scholarship across all disciplines, and enhances the Center’s research capability. Founded in 1897, SDSU is an urban, public education institution, the oldest and largest in the region. Since 2000, SDSU faculty have attracted more than $1 billion in grants and contracts for research and programs ranging from public health to marine biology. Designated as a research university with high activity by the Carnegie Foundation, SDSU offers 81 bachelor's degrees, 72 masters, and 16 doctorates. SDSU’s Love Library is the largest in the California State University system, and researchers are provided remote access to hundreds of article databases. Tele-communications and network services provide state of the art communications and computing technologies. Motivated and talented graduate students in various disciplines continually seek experience on interesting research projects.

San Diego State University Research Foundation

The San Diego State University Research Foundation (SDSURF) offers "cradle- to-grave" extramural grant/contract services to university researchers, including administrative and financial support, human resource management, and office space. With 157 central support staff and 2,450 grant and contract project employees, SDSURF is the largest auxiliary within the California State University (CSU) system. Established in 1943, SDSURF is a non-profit, auxiliary organization currently administering about 1,000 active grants and contracts, and annual revenues approaching $160 million. SDSURF staff have developed an outstanding reputation for responsibly administering grants and contracts, complying with an enormous variety of rules and regulations. From account set up through close out and final audit, staff ensure monies are spent appropriately to achieve sponsor objectives.
